We are looking for a civil engineering technologist for the following position: 

  • Civil Drafting Technician / Technologist

This is an intermediate-level position for those with an interest in working on municipal water, wastewater, road, stormwater, and structural engineering projects. Intermediate technologists are mentored by senior technologists and engineers both in the field and the office.

General job tasks include:
  • survey download, base plan preparation, and modelling.
  • design assistance with 3D modelling and CAD drawing preparation.
  • data compilation and quantity take-off using 3D models.

Typical municipal projects include urban road design, rural road design, storm sewer design, sanitary sewer design, watermain design and roads need studies.

Job Description

Technical

  • Manage and prepare base plan drawings including coordination of download process, integration of survey data, collection of utility information, and topographic elevation modelling;  
  • Work directly with surveyors to ensure accurate data collection and integration of information from a variety of sources including topographic surveys, aerial drone surveys, LiDAR, and satellite imagery;
  • Collaborate with our group of designers, engineers, and planners, and surveyors and prepare detailed 2D and 3D civil design drawings using AutoCAD / Civil 3D software;
  • Preparing technical figures for reports and engineering drawings for conceptual, tender, and construction packages.

Communication and Team Role

  • Participate in project meetings and coordinate with internal and external stakeholders as may be required through the drafting process;
  • Ensure quality assurance and control with adherence to company quality standards, processes, and best practices;
  • Continuous knowledge sharing, training, and mentoring to develop your skills and develop your career;
Job Requirements:

Required

  • Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology or related field
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and Civil 3D; experience with survey data processing is essential
  • 3-8 years of experience in civil design drafting, ideally in a consulting or municipal environment
  • Strong understanding of engineering drawings and municipal/provincial standards
  • Excellent communication, organization, and teamwork skills

Additional Assets

  • CET registration or eligibility
  • Experience with additional design software (e.g., Bluebeam Revu)
  • Familiarity and experience using field survey equipment (GPS, total stations) 
  • Previous work on municipal infrastructure projects
