Class EA for Connaught Park Sewage Pumping Station
The Municipality of Kincardine initiated a Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (Class EA) in June 2015 to evaluate alternatives for upgrading and increasing capacity at the Connaught Park Sewage Pumping Station (SPS) and related sanitary collection sewer and forcemain infrastructure. Recent projects undertaken by the Municipality have reduced infiltration and inflow into the sewer system, however peak flows are still approaching the station’s rated capacity. The trunk sewer upstream of the station is also at capacity during peak flows. Additionally, future development proposed for the northwest area of the Town will require additional capacity at the station. To address these deficiencies, the Municipality investigated a limited number of practical alternatives which may include construction of a new pumping station in a new location. This type of project is considered a Schedule B activity and must complete phases 1 and 2 of the Class EA process.
The Class EA process is incorporating a consultation program which includes a public information meeting (held August 20, 2015) and consultation with review agencies and First Nation and Métis communities. Copies of the presentation material are available in the document section. An archaeological assessment was also completed and is available for review.
Following evaluation of technical alternatives, recommendations for a preferred solution will be presented to Kincardine Council in July 2016. The Environmental Screening Report will be made available for public and agency review prior to finalization of the Class EA process.
